Washing machines are essential appliances in our homes. However, it is common for limescale to build up inside the machine over time. If you notice that your clothes are not as clean as they used to be, it could be due to mineral build-up inside your washing machine. This build-up, known as scaling, can also affect the internal components and lead to expensive repairs. To avoid these problems, it is important to clean your washing machine regularly.

Step 1: Common household items that can be used for descaling washing machine
Before embarking on your washing machine revitalization journey, make sure you have the following supplies on hand: White vinegar, Baking soda, Microfiber cloth or sponge, Old toothbrush, Distilled water, A soft, lint-free cloth.

Step 2: Empty the Drum
Start by running an empty hot water cycle to flush out any loose dirt or debris from the drum. If your machine has a cleaning cycle, use that setting. Otherwise, set the machine to the hottest water temperature.

Step 3: Add White Vinegar
Pour two cups of white vinegar into the detergent dispenser or directly into the drum. Vinegar acts as a natural disinfectant and helps dissolve mineral deposits.

Step 4: Run a Cycle
Run a complete wash cycle on the hottest setting. This will allow the vinegar to break down any residue and disinfect the interior of your machine. The acidity of the vinegar also helps to combat mold and mildew.

Step 5: Scrub the Seals and Gaskets
While the machine is running its cycle, use an old toothbrush dipped in vinegar to scrub the rubber seals and gaskets around the door. These areas often accumulate soap scum and mildew, contributing to unpleasant odors.

Step 6: Wipe Down the Exterior
While the machine is still warm, use a microfiber cloth or sponge to wipe down the exterior. Pay attention to control panels, knobs, and any other surfaces that may collect dust and grime.

Step 7: Clean the Dispensers
Remove detergent, bleach, and fabric softener dispensers, if applicable, and soak them in a solution of equal parts water and vinegar. Use a small brush to scrub away any residue, and rinse thoroughly before replacing them.

Step 8: Add Baking Soda
To eliminate any lingering odors and further break down stubborn residues, sprinkle half a cup of baking soda into the drum.

Step 9: Run a Final Cycle
Run another complete wash cycle, this time using the hottest water setting once again. This will ensure that any remaining vinegar or baking soda is thoroughly rinsed away.

Step 10: Wipe and Air Dry
After the final cycle is complete, use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe down the drum and door. Leave the door ajar for a few hours to allow the interior to air dry completely.
