No Aadhaar number has been cancelled, says UIDAI

The UIDAI has announced on its website that no Aadhaar numbers have been cancelled. UIDAI regularly issues intimations to Aadhaar number holders to keep their database updated. In order to maintain the accuracy of the Aadhaar database, an exercise for updating documents and Aadhaar information has been initiated. UIDAI has assured that any grievance related to Aadhaar will be addressed appropriately and encouraged Aadhaar number holders to submit their feedback on the UIDAI website. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently accused the BJP government of deactivating Aadhaar cards in the state before the Lok Sabha polls. She claimed that this was done to prevent people from availing the benefits of various social welfare schemes. Banerjee reassured the people of Bengal that her government will continue to provide welfare programs even to those without active Aadhaar cards. She alleged that Aadhaar cards of several people in different districts of Bengal have been deactivated.
