Navjot Sidhu may return to BJP, Yuvraj Singh considered for Gurdaspur candidacy

Speculation is growing within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) about the potential return of Navjot Singh Sidhu and the party’s consideration of fielding former cricketer Yuvraj Singh from the Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency. Despite Sidhu’s recent criticism of the Centre’s handling of farmer issues, there are indications that he might rejoin the BJP. Sidhu’s rapport with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has added intrigue to the situation. BJP functionary Somdev Sharma revealed that discussions are underway with other party leaders and potential candidates in anticipation of Sidhu’s possible return. He expressed confidence in Sidhu’s ability to win, especially if fielded from the traditionally BJP stronghold of Amritsar. There are strong indications that Yuvraj Singh could be fielded by the BJP from Gurdaspur, possibly replacing incumbent Sunny Deol. Sharma cited Yuvraj Singh’s recent meeting with Union minister Nitin Gadkari as a significant development in this regard. Congress functionary Raman Bakshi dismissed the possibility of Sidhu joining the BJP, stating that frequent party-switching diminishes a leader’s credibility. The BJP’s history of nominating celebrity candidates from Gurdaspur, such as Vinod Khanna and Sunny Deol, adds weight to the speculation surrounding Yuvraj Singh’s potential candidacy.
