A district court in Auraiya has sentenced former bandit Seema Parihar and her four associates to four years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each in a kidnapping case dating back to 1994. The crime was related to the abduction of Promod Kumar Tripathi in March 1994 and was committed by the notorious Lalaram-Seema Parihar gang. Lalaram was killed during a police encounter while Parihar, who had been charged with 70 murders and dacoities, was acquitted in 15 criminal cases and granted bail in 14 others. The case against Parihar was registered at Kotwali Auraiya and the FIR was filed by Tripathi’s brother. Parihar’s defense counsel mentioned that she plans to approach the High Court and file an appeal. Parihar was an active member of the Lalaram gang and later the Nirbhay Gujjar gang during her 19 years as a bandit. The gang carried out numerous robberies and abductions in districts across the region before Parihar decided to change her path. Currently, she is facing trial in cases registered in Etawah, Auraiya, and Jalaun districts.
