Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa recently made headlines for stirring controversy at the 50th-day celebration event of his film ‘Kaatera’. During the event, Darshan took the stage and openly criticized Umapathy, the producer of the blockbuster hit ‘Roberrt’. He contested Umapathy’s claim to the title and initiation of ‘Kaatera’, declaring himself as the creator of the title. Darshan even challenged Umapathy’s assertions, leaving the audience surprised.

Accompanied by the director Tharun Sudhir and producer Rockline Venkatesh, Darshan asked the directors of ‘Madhagaja’ and ‘Kaatera’, Mahesh Kumar and Tharun Sudhir respectively, to confirm his statements. However, Umapathy swiftly retaliated, refuting Darshan’s narrative and providing a different account of events.

According to Umapathy, the title ‘Kaatera’ was indeed registered under his name initially but was later transferred to Darshan in exchange for the title ‘Madhagaja’. He accused Darshan and his team of fabricating box office figures for ‘Roberrt’ and claimed substantial losses on his end.

In addition to this, Umapathy disclosed that he had rejected a profitable offer from a prominent OTT platform during the COVID-19 pandemic. He alleged that this decision was made at the insistence of Darshan’s team, resulting in a staggering loss of 13 crores.

This public confrontation between Darshan and Umapathy has caused a stir in the Kannada film industry. Both parties have their own versions of events, creating confusion among the audience and industry insiders. As the controversy continues to unfold, fans and critics eagerly await further developments in this heated dispute.
