Kenyan Women Arrested for Smuggling 6 kg Gold Worth Rs 3 Crore at Mumbai Airport

Two women from Kenya who smuggled 6 kg of gold worth Rs 3 crore from Nairobi were arrested at Mumbai International Airport on Sunday morning by Customs officials. The officials have arrested Najma Shaikh Mohammed (34) and Khawaja Shanu Sulu (48) and have seized 3.5 kg of gold worth Rs 1.60 crore and 2.5 kg of gold worth Rs 1.30 crore respectively.

The duo were arrested under the provision of the Customs Act and were produced before the holiday court on Sunday and were remanded to judicial custody. Advocate Prabhakar Tripathi who appeared on behalf of the accused said recovery was not done by the accused and the recovery shown is foisted recovery. “They do not understand English or Hindi language and therefore statements recorded can not be believed and hence we have filed retraction of the statement. We have filed a bail application which will come for a hearing on Monday,’’ said Tripathi.tnn
