40th Edition of Prithvi Theatre Memorial Concert Draws Star-Studded Audience

It was the middle of the week, yet, an array of stars, musicians and artistes gathered together for the 40th edition of the Prithvi Theatre Memorial Concert on Feb 28, 2024. This special event hosted by Kunal Kapoor and son Zahan, the trustees of Shri Prithviraj Kapoor Memorial Trust and Research Foundation, saw Ustad Zakir Hussain present ‘Nazarana – A tribute to Rashid Khan and Bhavani Shankar’. The event began with a small pakhawaj, drums and kathak performance outside the theatre post which the audience and artistes shifted inside Prithvi theatre. There were sets with tabla maestros Qureshi brothers, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Fazal Qureshi, Taufiq Qureshi, where they performed with sarangi maestro Sabir Khan. “After a long time all three of us brothers are playing together on the same stage,” said Ustad Zakir Hussain as the trio along with Sabir Khan performed a beautifully synchronized jugalbandi. A special set with Pandit Rakesh Chaurasia on flute, and another with classical vocalist Vijay Prakash received thunderous applause from the appreciative star-studded audience. Other artistes included Zubin Balaporia on keyboards, Nastya Saraswati on violin, Prayash Biswakarma on violin, Dielle Braganza on violin, Vian Pereira on cello and students of Bhavani Shankar on pakhawaj. In attendance were Jaya Bachchan with granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda, KK Raina, Vishal Bharwaj, Rekha Bhardwaj, Ila Arun, Ratna Pathak Shah, Divya Dutta, Makarand Deshpande, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Sonali Kulkarni, Vikramaditya Motwane, Louiz Banks, Nimrat Kaur, Anup Soni, Juhi Babbar Soni, Manav Kaul, Niladri Kumar, Gino Banks, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Arun, Jim Sarbh, Pooja Bhatt and many others.
