L&T Commissions Indigenously Built Hydrogen Electrolyzer at Hazira

Engineering major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has commissioned its first indigenously manufactured electrolyzer at the green hydrogen plant at A M Naik Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat. The electrolyzer, with a rated power capacity of 1 MW (expandable to 2 MW), has the ability to produce hydrogen of 200 Nm3/Hr. It is equipped with two stacks and an Electrolyser Processing Unit (EPU) ML-400, which is indigenously manufactured and assembled according to international standards. L&T plans to optimize its performance through rigorous testing in the coming weeks.

L&T Electrolysers Limited, a new entity of L&T, specializes in manufacturing pressurized alkaline electrolyzers using technology from McPhy Energy, France. The company aims to leverage its upcoming giga-scale facility in Hazira to meet the increasing demand for green hydrogen and achieve maximum product localization through an enhanced local supply chain and automation for cost-competitiveness.

This significant achievement of commissioning the indigenously manufactured electrolyzer positions L&T as a leader in the clean energy sector, both domestically and globally. Subramanian Sarma, the whole-time director & Sr EVP (Energy) of L&T, stated that this advancement enhances the company’s offerings across the value chain and establishes L&T as a global force in the clean energy space.

L&T Electrolysers has secured a capacity of 300 MW/annum under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) of the National Green Hydrogen Mission. This mission, launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and implemented by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), recognizes L&T Electrolysers’ potential to become a key player in electrolyzer manufacturing.

Following the announcement, L&T’s stock ended at Rs 3634.50 on the BSE, recording a 4.39% increase. The benchmark Sensex index closed 1.72% higher.
