AIMIM, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, has decided to contest 11 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Bihar. The announcement was made by party MLA Akhtarul Iman during a media interaction in Bihar. The party aims to support the deprived class in the state and the nation.
According to Iman, the party tried to save the secular votes in Bihar and at the national level, but other parties betrayed them. In the interest of the nation, minorities, and Dalits, the party believes it is important to support them.
The seats that AIMIM will contest are Araria, Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Ujiarpur, Karakat, Buxar, Gaya, and Bhagalpur.
This decision comes months after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar joined hands with the BJP-led NDA. Kumar, who was at the forefront of the INDIA bloc, had previously parted ways with the BJP in 2022 and aimed to unite opposition forces against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling party.
Iman took a swipe at Kumar, stating that he made a mistake by joining the NDA, and that he had committed hundreds of offenses.
Iman clarified that AIMIM’s fight is not for power, but for the deprived class of the state and the nation.
In the 2020 Assembly elections in Bihar, AIMIM won 5 seats. However, in 2022, four of its legislators left the party and joined hands with the RJD. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, AIMIM contested only 1 seat in Bihar, but contested on 3 seats across India, winning from Aurangabad and Hyderabad.
The Lok Sabha elections in Bihar are expected to be held in April-May.
