Justice N. Anand Venkatesh, a judge at the Madras High Court, urged people to understand the challenges faced by daily commuters by revealing his own travel choices. During a court session, the judge mentioned that he frequently travels by bicycle, government buses, or even on foot to better comprehend the problems faced by such commuters. This remark was made in response to a petition filed by Mohammed Ashik and Mohammed Shadik, seeking the withdrawal of a criminal case against them for engaging in dangerous motorcycle stunts on Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai in Chennai. It was reported that a group of youngsters riding around ten motorcycles were involved in reckless driving and overspeeding, posing a serious threat to other motorists on the road. Although a police constable attempted to apprehend them, the motorcycles sped away, making it impossible to note down their registration numbers. The incident was recorded by CCTV cameras, which prompted the Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing to file a First Information Report (FIR) to initiate an investigation. In response to the request for CCTV footage, Justice Venkatesh shared his personal experience of being terrified by the rash riding of motorcycles on public roads during his own bicycle commutes. He advised those gifted in performing bike stunts to demonstrate their abilities in appropriate racing circuits rather than endangering public safety on public roads. The judge adjourned the case until March 18.
