Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has labeled the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal as a ‘murder of democracy’. Gehlot criticized the probe agency for taking action against the Delhi Chief Minister without any evidence. He questioned whether the arrested CMs had committed a murder or a serious crime, and accused the agency of acting purely based on someone’s statements. Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra defended the arrest, stating that it was done in accordance with the law. The arrest of Kejriwal has faced severe criticism from opposition leaders, with the Goa Congress strongly condemning it as a ‘murder of democracy’. Goa Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao alleged that the BJP and its allied partners are working together to silence the opposition. Congress MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira called it an ‘assault on India’s democracy’. Kejriwal was remanded to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate until March 28 in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case linked to a money laundering case. The AAP plans to protest against Kejriwal’s arrest by ‘gheraoing’ the Prime Minister’s residence on March 26. Two senior AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are already in judicial custody in the same case.
