BSP president Mayawati and Bhim Army founder Chandra Shekhar Aazad have demanded a probe into the death of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari. Ansari, aged 63, died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Banda district, Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati called for a high-level inquiry into the case, stating that the truth needs to come before the public. She highlighted the serious allegations made by Ansari’s family regarding his death in jail. Aazad also demanded a CBI investigation, expressing his condolences to Ansari’s family and supporters. Ansari’s family claimed that he was subjected to slow poisoning in jail, while authorities denied the charge. Ansari, a former MLA from Mau Sadar, had been in jail since 2005 with over 60 criminal cases pending against him. He was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state and was pronounced dead following a cardiac arrest. Aazad’s Aazad Samaj Party is also preparing for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
