The Congress on March 31 accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of maintaining a “studious silence” on key issues affecting the people of Uttar Pradesh, as it alleged that he has “failed” women, farmers, and youth. Ahead of the Prime Minister’s rally in Meerut, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh posed questions for him on behalf of the people of Uttar Pradesh.

Ramesh highlighted several issues that the people of Uttar Pradesh are hoping to hear from the Prime Minister. He pointed out that while PM Modi publicly talks about women’s empowerment and “Nari Shakti,” he has repeatedly failed Indian women, even within his own party. Ramesh cited instances where female party workers were insulted and treated harshly, leading to resignations and demands for justice via social media.

The Congress leader also accused the Modi government of betraying female wrestlers when they fought for justice last year, claiming that the government prioritized its political calculations over supporting them. Ramesh asked if the Prime Minister will acknowledge these failures and take action against the accused.

Regarding farmers, Ramesh alleged that while the Modi government conferred the Bharat Ratna on Chaudhary Charan Singh and Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, it has consistently failed farmers. He claimed that PM Modi used to promise to implement the Swaminathan Committee Report but later put it in “cold storage” and suppressed farmers’ protests. In contrast, the Congress has guaranteed that it will give legal status to Minimum Support Price (MSP) in accordance with the Swaminathan Commission’s formula.

Ramesh further raised concerns about examination paper leaks under the Modi government’s tenure, stating that at least 43 papers have been leaked in the last few years across the country, affecting the futures of millions of candidates. He highlighted the recent cancellation of the UP Police Exams after the paper was leaked, affecting 60 lakh applicants. Ramesh emphasized the need for legislation and best practices to prevent paper leaks and asked the Prime Minister for his vision to address the harm done to the youth.

In conclusion, Jairam Ramesh called on Prime Minister Modi to break his silence on these key issues and provide answers to the people of Uttar Pradesh.
