The Madras High Court has permitted a convict, R. Subramanian, to argue a case through video conference from the Puzhal central prison in Chennai. The convict, who is serving a 20-year sentence for an economic offense, complained to the court that he was not allowed to wear civilian clothing during virtual court hearings. The court has ordered that the convict be allowed to appear virtually and wear regular civilian clothing. The convict had filed two appeals challenging the orders passed by Justice Krishnan Ramasamy, and the court turned down his request to appear in person. The court directed him to appear virtually on April 3, 2024, wearing a regular shirt and full pants.
