Controversy Erupts Over Telecast of ‘The Kerala Story’ on DD National
    Uncategorized

A Friday evening telecast of the controversial 2023 movie ‘The Kerala Story’ on DD National has drawn criticism from the CPM and Congress. Both parties have accused the screening of being disrespectful to the people of Kerala. Prior to the scheduled 8 pm telecast, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urged DD to cancel the screening. Although a petition was filed in the Kerala High Court to halt the telecast, the court refused to issue an order, suggesting that DD should have been given more time to respond.

V D Satheesan, the leader of the opposition, and M V Govindan, CPM’s state secretary, have written to the Election Commission alleging that the telecast was orchestrated by the BJP to appease a specific group of people before the elections. In response to the controversy, the DYFI, CPM’s youth wing, staged a protest in front of the Doordarshan Kendra. Congress’s Thiruvananthapuram MP, Shashi Tharoor, described the film’s selection as ‘propaganda at its cheapest and worst’.
