Ann Tessa Joseph, a deck cadet who was a part of 17 Indian nationals onboard the seized vessel MSC Aries has returned home, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday. The Indian Mission in Tehran, along with the Iranian Government, facilitated the safe return of Indian deck cadet Ms. Ann Tessa Joseph. She landed safely at the Cochin International Airport and was received by the Regional Passport Officer. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that the remaining 16 Indian crew members on MSC Aries are in good health and in contact with their families in India. The Indian Mission in Tehran is in touch with the Iranian authorities to ensure the well-being of the rest of the crew members. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar had also spoken to his Iranian counterpart Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian regarding the matter. The MSC Aries cargo ship was seized by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on April 13 in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iranian authorities, the vessel had violated maritime laws. Tensions have been high in the Middle East, with clashes between Israel and Iranian-aligned groups in various regions.
