The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached a bungalow in Pune and a flat in Juhu, Mumbai, along with equity shares worth about Rs 98 crore belonging to actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra. This action is part of an investigation into a money laundering case linked to an alleged crypto assets ponzi scheme. Earlier, the ED had already attached Rs 69 crore of assets belonging to other accused individuals, bringing the total attachment in the case to Rs 167 crore.

The case involves the Kundras, who are accused of collecting over Rs 6,600 crore in the form of Bitcoins from the public. These funds were allegedly collected with the promise of a 10% monthly return on crypto assets to investors. According to ED, the collected Bitcoins were intended for Bitcoin mining, with investors expecting significant returns in crypto assets. However, the promoters of the scheme cheated the investors and concealed the ill-gotten Bitcoins in obscure online wallets.

The ED’s investigation discovered that Raj Kundra received 285 Bitcoins worth Rs 150 crore from the promoter of Gain Bitcoin, an alleged ponzi scam run by Amit Bhardwaj. These Bitcoins were obtained from the proceeds of crime collected by Bhardwaj from unsuspecting investors. The agency states that Kundra is still in possession of these 285 Bitcoins, which are currently valued at more than Rs 150 crore, as the planned deal for setting up a Bitcoin mining farm did not materialize.

The ED had previously arrested three individuals, Simpy Bhardwaj, Nitin Gaur, and Nikhil Mahajan, in December and January last year in connection with this case.
