Coimbatore on High Alert for Bird Flu Outbreak in Kerala

The district administration in Coimbatore has tightened vigilance at all the 12 check posts on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border in response to reports of bird flu outbreak in two villages of Alappuzha district in Kerala. Officials have reassured that there is no need to panic about the situation in Coimbatore. However, they have started checking and sanitizing all vehicles entering Coimbatore from Kerala, especially through the check posts at Walayar, Velanthavalam, Meenakshipuram, and Gopalapuram. Transport of any bird and their manure from Kerala to Coimbatore has been prohibited. Blood samples of affected birds have been sent for testing. Poultry farmers in Coimbatore have been instructed to report any unusual deaths or symptoms. The district administration is closely monitoring the 1,252 poultry farms across the district. While it is safe to eat chicken, people are advised to avoid consuming half boiled or raw eggs and stick to fully cooked eggs and chicken.
