Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has clarified his statement regarding the resettlement of Chakma-Hajong refugees. Rijiju stated that he never said the refugees should be settled in Assam, but rather across India. He explained that these refugees face difficulties obtaining permanent resident certificates in Arunachal Pradesh, which is why settlement across the country is a more feasible solution. Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has denied any discussions or plans to resettle these refugees in Assam.
