Four persons, including a juvenile, were arrested by the Jayamangalam police in Theni district on Friday and remanded in judicial custody. The incident took place during a routine vehicular check, when a special team led by SI of Police Murugaperumal intercepted an auto rickshaw. The four persons, including the driver, began to abuse the police personnel and one of them brandished an aruval. Three others in the auto attempted to hurl country bombs at the police. However, the police managed to overpower and arrest the armed gang. The arrested individuals were identified as T. Suryaprakash (24), P. Prabhu (30) and two others from Gandhi Nagar Colony, Jayamangalam. They were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, as well as the Explosives Substance Act and the Indian Arms Act. Notably, one of the accused had multiple pending criminal cases, including a murder charge, against him. Two country bombs and an aruval were seized as evidence. The accused have been remanded in judicial custody pending further investigation.
