Indian AI Startups Launch Large Language Models and AI-Driven Products

Several Indian artificial intelligence (AI) startups showcased their latest developments at an event called Adbhut India. The event, organized by non-profit people+ai, featured initiatives by fintech company Setu, EkStep Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Microsoft Research, and Fynd. These startups demonstrated the diverse applications of AI in solving real-world problems. Setu launched Sesame, a large language model (LLM) specifically designed for the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sector. Developed in collaboration with Sarvam AI, Sesame marks a significant milestone in AI adoption in the financial services industry.

Sarvam AI showcased its platform that enables companies to build voice-enabled AI systems in Indian languages. This platform opens up tremendous opportunities for businesses to cater to the diverse linguistic needs of the Indian market. Fynd, on the other hand, introduced BharatDiffusion v2, an AI model that creates high-quality and realistic images showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage. The model is trained on a large collection of Indian photos, ensuring that the generated images accurately reflect the country’s diversity.

Von Neumann AI presented their newest product, JOHNAIC, a personal AI server. This innovative solution aims to reduce AI costs by 85% and comes with built-in software-as-a-service (SaaS) and AI tools, making it accessible to SMEs and startups. DRiefcase, a personal health records app under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, conducted a pilot survey to gather feedback from patients. The survey focused on the ABDM Scan & Share module, which aims to streamline patient wait times at hospitals.

STAGE, an entertainment platform showcasing Haryanvi and Rajasthani cultures, unveiled a Haryanvi-dialect based AI voice agent on their OTT platform. This voice agent not only provides technical support but also establishes an emotional connection with users by communicating in their native language. STAGE recently achieved profitability with over 1.2 million paying subscribers, indicating the success of their unique approach.

Tanuj Bhojwani, head of people+ai, emphasized the importance of AI for India. With its diverse and vibrant population, India is poised to become a leading AI user in the world. The country’s young population is expected to heavily rely on AI for various aspects of their daily lives, ranging from entertainment to education. Bhojwani predicts that India will not only become the world’s largest consumer of mobile data but also the AI use case capital of the world.
