Rockwell plans to expand in India with more factories & tech workers

Rockwell Automation is considering expanding its technology workforce and opening more factories in India to boost manufacturing, as the company sees India as a technology hub. The industrial automation equipment maker, which completed 40 years in India, counts many manufacturing giants, including Reliance Industries, Mahindra Group, and MRF, as its customers.

“We see India as a technology hub for our current and future product development, hardware and software,” said Rockwell Asia Pacific Regional President Scott Wooldridge.

Rockwell currently employs 4,500 people in India, with its major tech workforce in Noida, Pune, and Bengaluru. The company plans to sharpen its focus on hardware and software product development by hiring more people for its technology centers.

Rockwell’s expansion plan is in line with the growth the company has seen in the last five or six years, where it went from 500 to 3,500 employees. This move comes at a time when Indian IT majors are reducing hiring due to clients cutting back spending and deferring projects.

Rockwell recently announced plans to open a factory in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and has further plans to open more factories in India. The company sees the Chennai plant as the start of a manufacturing campus strategy and aims to move more products to India.
