The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on May 9 confirmed that three Indian nationals have been arrested in connection with the killing of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. However, no official communication has been received from Canada regarding the arrests. The MEA spokesperson stated that no specific evidence or information has been shared by Canadian authorities in relation to the case. The arrests have brought attention to the issue of separatist, extremist elements being given political space in Canada, and the hindrance faced by Indian diplomats due to threats and obstruction by such individuals. The MEA has also raised concerns about figures associated with organized crime being allowed entry and residency in Canada, with many pending extradition requests. Discussions are underway at the diplomatic level between India and Canada to address these matters.

The three Indian nationals, Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karanpreet Singh, all residents of Edmonton, have been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. They appeared before the Surrey Provincial Court in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The case has drawn attention to the alleged presence of an organized hit squad in Canada. The investigation and trial will continue as the authorities work to bring justice for the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
