CPI(M) and Congress Protest Attacks on Their Offices and Leaders in Tripura, Blame BJP
November 29, 2025
CPI(M) and Congress have organized separate protests following attacks on their party offices and leaders in Tripura. Several opposition leaders and workers, including former CPI(M) MLA Amitava Datta, were hurt in these incidents. Both parties blame the ruling BJP for the violence that erupted after days of clashes between BJP and its ally Tipra Motha. Earlier, party offices and homes were targeted. Congress leaders say these attacks aim to shift focus from tensions between BJP and its coalition partners. They also criticized the police for not stopping the violence. On November 26, the Congress district office in Dharmanagar, the headquarters of north Tripura, suffered severe damage and parts were set on fire. Amitava Datta and another senior CPI(M) leader were injured in another attack by alleged BJP workers in Dharmanagar and are being treated at GBP Hospital in Agartala. CPI(M) also held street protests. Senior CPI(M) leader Manik Dey said, “The Chief Minister cannot ignore his responsibility for the series of political violence in the state.” He added the Chief Minister has not condemned the violence and called the attacks “entirely politically motivated.”
