Cyclone Ditwah Brings Heavy Rain, Red Alert in Tamil Nadu; Multiple School Holidays Declared

The Regional Meteorological Centre has kept its forecast of light to moderate rain across many parts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday, November 29, 2025. A red alert has been issued for Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, and Puducherry due to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. Because of the heavy rain forecast, authorities declared a holiday for all schools in Tiruchi district. Collector V. Saravanan advised that "schools are advised not to have any special classes." Holidays were also declared for schools in Thanjavur and Ariyalur districts and for schools and colleges in Perambalur and Pudukottai districts. Earlier, holidays had already been announced for schools and colleges in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai districts. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow safety guidelines amid the severe weather conditions.
