Kerala's Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar faces tough questions after the Supreme Court sharply criticized delays in appointing Vice-Chancellors for Digital University Kerala and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. On Saturday in Tirur, General Education Minister V. Sivankutty said the Governor should ask himself if he is fit to continue in the post. The Supreme Court noted that a search-cum-selection committee, led by retired judge Sudhanshu Dhulia, was formed with everyone's agreement to suggest candidates for the Vice-Chancellors. This report was handed to the Chief Minister, who then sent it to the Governor. Yet, the Governor did not act on it, forcing the state to approach the Supreme Court again. The Governor's lawyer argued that the full documents were not shared by the state, but Sivankutty called this claim "strange," stating the government sent all records to the Governor's office. The Minister urged the Governor to stop delaying the appointments and fulfill his constitutional duties, warning against unnecessary legal fights with a democratically elected government.
