Chittoor Police Book Six Drunk Drivers, ₹60,000 Fine Imposed in Special Drive

Chittoor police booked six drivers for drunk driving on Saturday during a special enforcement drive. Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi and Deputy SP T. Sainath supervised the operation. Traffic Inspector K. Lakshminarayana told the media that all six offenders appeared before the Principal Junior Civil Court. Judicial Magistrate Uma Devi fined each ₹10,000, totaling ₹60,000. The Inspector warned that driving under the influence is a leading cause of fatal accidents. He said, "As per Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, first-time offenders face a fine of ₹10,000 or up to six months imprisonment, while repeat offenders may be jailed for up to three years or fined ₹15,000." He appealed to all motorists to follow road safety rules and avoid drunk driving to save lives.
