The district unit of Shiv Sena and religious leaders staged a 'rasta roko' and formed a human chain at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Chowk in Kalaburagi on Saturday. The protest was led by Siddalinga Swami, State president of Shiv Sena, in response to an attack on gau rakshaks on Wednesday. The gau rakshaks were attacked after questioning illegal cattle being transported to a slaughterhouse. Mr. Swami condemned the attack and said, "law and order in the district had weakened." He accused the departments responsible of failing to prevent illegal activities, allowing such incidents to continue. The protesters demanded the government to take strict action. They called for the immediate arrest of those involved in the assault. They also urged the setting up of check-points and CCTV cameras to stop illegal cattle transport. Mr. Swami asked for action against officials from the police, RTO, APMC, and veterinary department who failed to curb illegal cattle transportation. He insisted that all illegal slaughterhouses in the district be closed. The protesters warned that if the government did not respond quickly, Shiv Sena members would intensify their agitation.
