The CBI court in Vijayawada sentenced Assistant Divisional Engineer M. Dharma Rao of South Central Railway, Bhimavaram, to one year imprisonment for bribery. The case began on November 29, 2006, when CBI registered a complaint against Rao. He demanded a digital camera worth ₹11,200 to clear contractor bills totaling ₹1.87 lakh. Rao was caught accepting the camera in exchange for clearing the bills. On Friday, the court also fined him ₹1,500. This marks a strict action against corruption in the railway department.
