The Commissionerate of Customs Preventive, Kochi, has provisionally released a luxury car seized from actor Amit Chakkalakkal. The seizure was part of Operation Numkhor, which targets a racket suspected of selling cars smuggled from Bhutan. The car was handed back under Section 110A of the Customs Act. This law allows seized goods to be returned provisionally when the owner provides a bond for their approximate value and submits 20% of that value as a bank guarantee, a Customs source said on Saturday. The source added that at least eight cars linked to Amit Chakkalakkal, either registered in his name or imported for him, were seized during the operation. "A total of 46 cars were seized since September and most of them have been released or provisionally released," the source said. Cars with valid Indian invoices have been given back after verification. Vehicles released provisionally must be parked securely and shown to Customs officials when asked. High-end vehicles belonging to actor Dulquer Salmaan were also seized during the operation and have been released provisionally.
