The Govindaraja Nagar police arrested Shivakumar T. Nagara Navile, editor of a Kannada tabloid, for cheating a woman by falsely promising her a job in the State press council. The victim, Meenakshi B., filed a complaint accusing Shivakumar of claiming to be the president of the "State press council" and offering her the position of "State president for women journalist council." He took over ₹50,000 initially, promising to send her to Singapore for the Vishishta Kannada Habba programmes for 2024. Later, he demanded more money to organise the programme. The victim paid a total of ₹25 lakh by borrowing from relatives and friends and even pawning her gold. When she tried to contact Shivakumar after the programme, he allegedly threatened her upon her demand for money. The victim said Shivakumar has cheated many others similarly and urged a thorough investigation. Police caught Shivakumar at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport just before he boarded a flight to Oman. His phone was seized and he was taken into custody.
