Senior BJP leader Prem Kumar filed his nomination on December 1, 2025, to become the new Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. He is a nine-term MLA from Gaya Town and has served as a Minister in several Nitish Kumar-led governments. No other candidate filed nominations, so he is expected to be elected unopposed. The official announcement will come on December 2. On the same day, most of the 243 newly elected MLAs took their oath in Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit, and Maithili. Pro-tem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav administered the oath. Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha took their oaths first. Maithili Thakur, the youngest MLA, wore a colorful paag and spoke her oath in Maithili. Six MLAs missed the oath and will do so after the Speaker's election. The second supplementary budget will also be presented. The five-day session ends on Friday.
