A boat was seen moving at the Lanka Trisection of the town on Saturday morning due to the alarming rise in water levels of the Mandakini River following continuous heavy rainfall. The overflowing river submerged roads, ghats, and low-lying areas, severely affecting normal life in the religious town. The swollen river encroached upon areas near Ramghat and Jankighat, prompting the local administration to issue warnings and restrict public movement near the banks. Several shops and makeshift structures were flooded, while residents living close to the river were advised to move to safer locations. SDM Majhgawan, AP Dwivedi, mentioned that announcements were made, and residents were aware of the situation, with people already shifted to safer places. The official explained that the water level of the Mandakini River rose quickly but recedes at the same speed once the rain stops. The authorities are hopeful that the water will recede by evening as the rain calms down.
