Concerns raised over distribution of electoral enumeration roll forms by municipal sweepers in Patna

July 15, 2025

At a local level in Patna, residents like Arvind Kumar Jha and Anand Kishore are questioning the practices surrounding the electoral enumeration roll forms distributed by municipal sweepers. The lack of receipts and barcodes on the forms have left many anxious about the validity of their submissions. While some have taken proactive measures like capturing photos of their filled forms for future reference, others are contemplating seeking clarification from Booth Level Officers (BLOs). However, the response from BLOs like Manju Devi has been non-committal, further adding to the uncertainty among residents. With concerns also raised about potential malpractices such as selling the forms to scrap dealers, the integrity of the electoral process in the region has come under scrutiny. The situation is exacerbated by reports of BLOs in other districts engaging in misconduct, including misleading voters and accepting bribes during the electoral roll revision process. Despite these challenges, the Election Commission reports significant progress in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, with the majority of forms collected. However, the upcoming deadline for form submissions looms, leaving a small percentage of electors yet to complete the process. As the State Assembly elections draw closer, the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process becomes increasingly vital.
