A new survey conducted by Kickresume in May 2025 sheds light on a concerning disparity in the global graduate job market. While a significant portion of fresh graduates express readiness to kickstart their careers, a staggering 58% are unable to land jobs. The survey, encompassing 1,277 respondents at different education and career levels, emphasizes the obstacles faced by individuals entering the workforce. With only 12% of fresh graduates having secured full-time employment before completing their studies, contrasted by 39% of earlier graduates, it is evident that pre-graduation hiring trends have changed. Additionally, the reliance on digital platforms like LinkedIn for job searches has surged among fresh graduates, reaching 57%. Despite the digital shift, crafting resumes remains a daunting task for 34% of fresh graduates, highlighting a persistent challenge in the job hunt. The survey also illuminates common hurdles experienced by both fresh and earlier graduates, including unrealistic job descriptions, self-promotion struggles, and pressure to accept unsuitable job offers. While 56% of fresh graduates believe in the career-boosting potential of their education, a notable percentage acknowledges its outdated relevance in today's rapidly evolving industries. The survey raises crucial questions about the perceived importance of first jobs and the disconnect between graduates' confidence levels and actual job opportunities. It prompts a critical evaluation of education systems and hiring practices to better equip young individuals for the competitive job market.
