In a recent development in the Balasore student self-immolation case, MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi disclosed that the college principal had confronted the student with an unfavorable internal inquiry committee report. The principal allegedly demanded an apology from the student on the same day she took her life. Sarangi criticized the committee's methodology and highlighted irregularities in the report that seemed biased towards the accused teacher. The MP welcomed a judicial inquiry and dismissed politically motivated allegations against him. The case is currently under investigation by the crime branch to uncover various aspects of the incident, including the source of petrol used, the truth behind the harassment allegations, and the institutional response. A UGC team is also conducting a separate inquiry to track events leading to the student's death.
