A unique wild vegetable festival took place in Canacona, featuring a wide variety of dishes made from wild and seasonal vegetables. The event, known as the ran-bhaji festival, showcased over 550 dishes prepared by 182 different groups, including self-help groups, anganwadis, high schools, and even a team from the Young Chef Olympiad 2025. The festival aimed to preserve traditional cuisine and raise awareness about the importance of wild and seasonal vegetables. Some of the innovative dishes presented at the festival included ran-bhaji cake, ran-bhaji pulao, ran-bhaji momos, and ran-bhaji cutlets. Additionally, visitors had the opportunity to purchase raw ran-bhaji to try at home. The event was inaugurated by power minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar and attended by several prominent figures, including BJP state president Damodar Naik and speaker Ramesh Tawadkar. Organized by the Shree Balram Charitable Trust in collaboration with the Goa Biodiversity Board, department of agriculture, and department of tribal affairs, the festival aimed to promote traditional Goan cuisine and highlight the health benefits of consuming wild and seasonal vegetables.
