Residents of Kavlem village in Ponda taluka are raising concerns about the risks posed by stray cattle and wild animals. The villagers are particularly worried about potential attacks from bison and leopards. The loss faced by paddy cultivators and plantation owners due to the intrusion of these animals has been highlighted. The villagers have requested the panchayat to intervene by reaching out to the forest department to find a solution. They have also suggested planting fruit-bearing trees in forest areas and hills to provide food resources for wild animals in their natural habitats. Sarpanch Manuja Naik has stated that the panchayat is willing to seek help from the forest department to address this issue. Additionally, during the recent gram sabha meeting, the villagers requested the panchayat to take measures to control the presence of cattle on the roads, which increases the risk of accidents. Deputy sarpanch Sushant Kapileshwarkar mentioned that the panchayat has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with some cattle shelters to tackle the stray cattle issue.
