Mumbai Faces Heavy Rainfall and Orange Alert from IMD

July 24, 2025

Heavy rainfall persists in Mumbai and neighboring regions during the monsoon season, with an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for various districts in Maharashtra. Mumbai, Raigad, Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Palghar are under the orange alert, anticipating moderate to heavy rainfall. The continuous downpour has led to significant waterlogging in Mumbai, prompting the closure of the Andheri Subway by the Mumbai Traffic Police. The IMD forecasts further showers for Raigad, Thane, and other areas, with delays reported on train services, especially on the Central and Harbour lines. Travel disruptions have been exacerbated by waterlogging, leading authorities to divert traffic via alternate routes. The situation is compounded by the prediction of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Konkan & Goa, Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathawada, with ongoing moderate rain expected in other parts of western India. The IMD warns of the weather challenges persisting until at least July 28, impacting daily life, transportation, and infrastructure.
