Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, the much-loved television drama that captivated audiences nationwide, is making a grand return after 25 years. The fans' excitement is palpable as the show, hailed for its compelling storytelling and memorable characters, begins its second season, marking a significant comeback for its lead actress, Smriti Irani, who has been away from the small screen for quite some time. Smriti Irani reprises her role as Tulsi Virani, a character that has stayed dear to many viewers over the years. The new season was launched at a prime time slot of 10:30 PM, and to celebrate this momentous occasion, the show’s producer Ektaa Kapoor and Smriti Irani went live on the Instagram page of the channel airing the series. During this interactive session, the duo revisited their cherished memories associated with the original show and shared amusing anecdotes about their journey together. Reflecting on the casting of Smriti Irani, Ektaa Kapoor revealed an interesting backstory. She explained that her mother, Shobha Kapoor, first noticed Smriti in another television show and was impressed by her beauty. This admiration led to a pivotal casting decision. "Meri mom ne Smriti ko ek show mein dekha tha aur bola the ke ye ek ladki maine show mein dekha hai...joh bahot he khubsurat ladki hai aur woh mujhe bahot pasand aayi hai," Ektaa recalled, sharing how her mother urged her to consider Smriti for the role. Smriti chimed in with a memory of her own, clarifying that the show she appeared in at that time was also on the same channel as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and she had landed the role as a replacement for Ektaa’s close friend, Neelam Kothari, who couldn't participate due to illness. "Aur woh show bhi same channel par tha aur uss show mein maine aapki friend Neelam Kothari joh hai woh uss din bimar thi toh aa nahi paayin thi toh maine unka replacement kiya tha," Smriti recounted, showcasing her initial interaction with the channel. Ektaa praised Smriti's presence from the onset, saying, "I don't know what you had done back then but my mom had completely gone crazy after watching you." She recounted how her mother, a big fan of actress Twinkle Khanna, insisted that Smriti bore a striking resemblance to her. This seemingly casual recommendation turned out to be a turning point in Smriti's career. As the girls discussed their first meeting, Ektaa reminisced about Smriti's audition. "She was very slim, quiet, and shy. She auditioned for the show and gave such a sweet smile at the end of it," Ektaa said, emphasizing how Smriti's natural charm left an impression. In a light-hearted manner, Smriti responded to Ektaa's story, adding bemusedly, "Aur woh audition Ektaa ko chodh ke kisi ko pasand nahi aaya... sabne bola ye ladki." The chemistry between the duo was palpable as they shared these memories, showcasing the bond that has lasted over two decades. As the series prepares for its premiere on July 29, it’s clear that the revival of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is more than just a nostalgic trip down memory lane. It's about reconnecting with timeless stories, beloved characters, and the irreplaceable relationships formed throughout the years. Fans eagerly await to see how the story of Mihir and Tulsi Virani unfolds in the new season, as the iconic duo returns to entertain once again. This reboot surely promises to evoke a blend of nostalgia and contemporary storytelling, catering to both long-time fans and new viewers alike.
