A high-level judicial panel investigating the discovery of a substantial amount of cash at the official residence of Delhi HC judge Yashwant Varma suspects the judge's personal staff in the mysterious disappearance of the cash. The inquiry panel, led by senior judges, recorded statements from the judge's private secretary, staff, and security personnel. The panel found that the cash, both burnt and unburnt, disappeared from the room in the early hours of March 15. Although an informal inquiry panel cannot conduct a formal investigation as per the criminal procedure code, it raised concerns about the involvement of the judge's personal staff. The panel's findings have been forwarded to Justice Varma, who has been urged to resign from his position. However, Justice Varma has refused to step down, prompting further action to be taken for his removal. He has been relocated from Delhi HC to Allahabad HC and relieved of judicial work pending the formal initiation of a removal proceeding against him.
