Get ready for a weather rollercoaster! On Tuesday, Haridwar faced tough times as heavy rain caused severe waterlogging everywhere. The water of the mighty Ganga River is rising fast, and police strongly warn people to stay away from the ghats for their own safety. Meanwhile, Northern Railways had a bumpy ride too! A huge boulder tumbled onto the tracks between Haridwar and Motichur on the Haridwar-Dehradun route. But thanks to the railways’ canopy, “no major damage took place,” said an official statement. Luckily, nobody got hurt. Workers and sectional officers rushed to the spot to start fixing things. Trains like the Kumbh Express (12369 and 12370) and the Jan Shatabdi Express (12055) had to stop early at Haridwar. Railway SP Aruna Bharti gave some eye-opening details: “At around 6.30-6.45 pm, debris and small boulders fell on the track. Some wires broke. There have been no casualties or injuries. Janta Express is halted at Harrawala, and police are at the spot. Work is going on in the track. The scheduled trains are asked not to commence the journey.” She warned it may take 4-5 hours to clear the track. About 4-5 trains were affected. Multiple railway teams and police are on the rescue mission. But that’s not all! Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district faced an even bigger disaster. Two cloudbursts hit Dharali and Sukhi Top areas, causing flash floods, mudslides, and flash destruction. Homes, shops, and roads were swept away. Many people are still feared missing in this calamity. The worst hit was Dharali, with widespread devastation. The Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) quickly jumped into rescue mode. Over 130 people have been saved so far, according to Uttarakhand officials. The State Emergency Operation Centre keeps in constant touch with District Magistrate and SSP to coordinate relief. The weather department warns heavy rain will continue, especially in hill districts. So, stay alert and stay safe as nature shows its fury in Uttarakhand and Haridwar.
