The crowd in Montreal witnessed a jaw-dropping tennis fight on Wednesday night as 18-year-old Canadian star Victoria Mboko pulled off an incredible comeback to reach the National Bank Open final. She fought hard in a nail-biting match lasting two hours and 46 minutes, the longest of her WTA career, beating the experienced ninth seed Elena Rybakina with scores 1-6, 7-5, 7-6(4). Mboko, ranked No. 85 in the world, has taken the tennis world by storm this week. Starting 2025 way outside the top 300, she has climbed fast thanks to spectacular wins, including a straight-set upset over the top seed Coco Gauff and a tough quarterfinal victory against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro earlier. Elena Rybakina, the 25-year-old former Wimbledon champion from Kazakhstan, was no easy rival. She had beaten Mboko just last month in Washington and holds nine WTA titles, including a fresh win in Strasbourg this May. But last night, Mboko showed relentless spirit and skill to turn the tables on Rybakina. Now, the exciting Toronto native is all set for her first-ever WTA Tour final! She will face a big name next: either the legendary Naomi Osaka or the talented Clara Tauson in Thursday’s final under the glittering lights of Montreal. It’s a golden chance for Mboko to make history and win her first WTA title right at home. Can this young Canadian queen seize the moment and snatch the crown? Fans can’t wait to find out!
