Sidney Crosby is all set to light up the ice for his 21st NHL season starting October 7. At 38, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ veteran center continues to amaze by scoring over 90 points in each of the last three years. But here’s the twist — although Crosby shines individually, the Penguins have missed the playoffs three years running. This leaves fans hot with curiosity: could Crosby switch teams and chase another Stanley Cup? Think of it like NFL legend Tom Brady did late in his career when he left New England for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. NHL insider Josh Yohe spilled the tea in The Athletic, comparing Crosby and Brady’s late career moves. Brady, now 43, might have "the occasional off game" compared to his 30-year-old self, but he still led Tampa Bay to a Super Bowl win. Yohe asked, "Is it inconceivable to imagine Crosby doing something similar?" But wait, the key difference is loyalty. Crosby has stuck with the Penguins, who are deep into a rebuilding phase. "Oh, it won’t happen this season," Yohe wrote, "Or the one after … Crosby is playing for a rebuilding team, something Brady never had to do." When Brady left the Patriots, he joined a Buccaneers team bursting with talent — a clear path to another championship. On the flip side, Crosby stays committed to a Penguins squad focused on the future, making an immediate Stanley Cup run tougher. Yet, hope glimmers! Penguins GM Kyle Dubas made a bold move at the 2025 NHL Draft, picking 13 promising players — the most in the league — and gathering future picks. If Dubas manages to "push the right buttons," as Yohe says, the Penguins could roar back sooner than expected. Yohe shared, "He’s hopeful Dubas pushes the right buttons, this rebuild happens faster." Meanwhile, Crosby, who signed a two-year extension starting 2025–26 and broke Wayne Gretzky’s record for most seasons averaging over a point per game, still shows elite skills. Without a stronger team, though, copying Brady’s late-career magic might stay just out of reach. So, will Sidney keep his Penguins crown his fortress or will the ice soon see a new chapter?
