Cricket fans, hold your breath! The rumor mill went wild after a report said that India’s cricket stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might retire from ODIs by this October. Would India really miss these legends in the 2027 World Cup in South Africa? The story made waves after the England Test series ended and before the Asia Cup kicks off in September. The report from Dainik Jagran claimed that Kohli and Rohit must play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s domestic List A tournament, to stay ready and in the running for the national team. Otherwise, they might hang up their boots. But don’t worry just yet. A BCCI insider told PTI on the condition of anonymity, “Obviously, if they (Rohit and Kohli) have something in mind, they would tell the BCCI brass like they did before the England Test tour.” The source added the board is now all eyes on the Asia Cup T20 tournament and the big T20 World Cup next year. The immediate plan is to send the best, fittest Indian team to the Asia Cup in the UAE. The report also cleared up another buzz: there is no plan for a farewell match for Kohli or Rohit in Sydney on October 25. No talks about this have happened so far. Both stars last played for India at the Champions Trophy earlier this year in the UAE, where India lifted the title. But since the Indian Premier League ended, neither has featured in competitive matches. So, while fans wonder if these cricket giants will still be shining in 2027, the BCCI stays cool and focused on the game. For now, it’s match time and not retirement talks.
