Blazing Willard Peak Fire Sparks Evacuations and Power Outages in North Ogden

August 15, 2025

A fiery showstopper has hit the Willard hills of North Ogden! The Willard Peak Fire burst into action on Wednesday afternoon, August 13, when a vehicle caught fire and flames raced uphill, FOX13 reports. Utah Fire Info (UFI) estimates the fire covers between 50 and 75 acres, and sadly, it remains uncontained. UFI posted on X, "#WillardPeakFire (formerly #NorthOgdenFire) is 50–75 acres in flashy fine fuels & gamble oak. Ground crews & aircraft engaged. Evacuations ordered E of 1050 E & N of 3300 N by North Ogden PD. If told to evacuate—leave. Avoid the area. Human-caused. #ffslkmg" North Ogden police quickly jumped into action, ordering evacuations east of 1050 East and north of 3300 North to keep residents safe. Officials strongly urged everyone to follow these orders without delay and steer clear of the danger zone. To help those displaced, the American Red Cross Northern Utah Chapter opened their shelter at 626 E. 2600 North. An earlier post from UFI explained that the fire’s name changed from #NorthOgdenFire to #WillardPeakFire, which is quite normal. They said, "The Incident Commander typically names wildfires after a nearby geographical feature or the area closest to where the fire started. Names may also change if there was a recent incident with the same name in the fire dispatch system." The firefighting battle is fierce and dramatic! Multiple fire crews are on the scene, while helicopters and air tankers pour water and fire retardants from the sky to douse the raging flames. However, the tough terrain and dry fuels like gamble oak make the fight challenging. Trouble deepened when Rocky Mountain Power switched off power lines to prevent accidents. According to poweroutage.us, over 30,000 residents were left in the dark as of 6:39 p.m. MT. But crews are working hard to bring the lights back as soon as possible. This human-caused blaze is a stern reminder of nature’s power and the need for caution. So, if you’re near North Ogden, stay alert, follow officials’ instructions, and pray the heroes on the ground can tame this beast quickly!
