Deadly Independence Day in Karachi: 3 Killed, 60+ Injured Due to Reckless Aerial Firing

August 15, 2025

Karachi’s Independence Day celebrations, which should bring joy and unity, turned tragic this year due to reckless aerial firing. Three innocent lives were lost, including a senior citizen and a young 8-year-old girl. Over 60 people suffered gunshot injuries across the city, Geo News reported, quoting rescue officials. The young girl was hit by a stray bullet in Azizabad, while a man named Stephen lost his life in Korangi. Rescue teams rushed to help at least 64 injured people, many caught in the crossfire of celebratory gunshots. Authorities quickly condemned this dangerous trend. They called aerial firing "reckless" and urged citizens to celebrate Independence Day in safer ways. The police have launched a full investigation and promised strict action against those responsible for these harmful acts. This is not the first time gunfire during celebrations or conflicts has caused chaos in Karachi. A report by ARY News revealed that in January alone, 42 people died from firing incidents in different parts of the city, including five women. Moreover, injuries numbered 233, with some people even killed while fighting off robbers. Police said these deadly episodes often stem from personal arguments, grudges, and resistance to crimes like robbery. In January, besides firing incidents, road accidents and fights against robbers also contributed to a rise in deaths and injuries in Karachi. The Chipa Foundation reported that 528 people, including children and elderly, were hurt in road accidents earlier this year, with 36 dying due to those accidents. Fighting robbers led to three deaths and fifteen injuries. As Karachi mourns these avoidable losses, the message from officials is loud and clear: enough is enough! Let’s make the next Independence Day a celebration of safety and life, not sorrow from needless gunfire.
