Mumbai Drenched Again! Heavy Rains Cause Water-Logging and Traffic Chaos on Third Day

August 18, 2025

Mumbai turned into a rainy wonderland for the third day in a row on Monday, but this watery treat created big troubles! Heavy downpours flooded several parts of the city, making low-lying areas like the Andheri Subway and Lokhandwala Complex look like mini lakes. The soaking rains also made it hard for drivers, as visibility dropped and vehicles trudged through water-logged streets. People had to be extra careful while moving around. The city’s beloved local trains, often called the lifeline, did not escape the storm’s wrath. They were running late by 15 to 20 minutes, leaving many commuters anxious. But, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses kept their routes steady, without any diversions. Starting early Monday morning, rains poured heavily, growing stronger from 9 am onwards. "The island city, eastern and western suburbs recorded an average rainfall of 37 mm, 39 mm and 29 mm, respectively, in just one hour from 9 am," revealed a civic official. Chembur led the downpour race with a whopping 65 mm rainfall, followed by Shivaji Nagar's hefty 50 mm. Looking back at the entire day before Monday’s 8 am, the island city got drenched with 54.58 mm, eastern suburbs soaked with 72.61 mm, and western suburbs saw 65.86 mm of rain. A few spots even crossed 100 mm of rainfall during this period! The monsoon magic is strong in Mumbai, but so is the flood of challenges. With water everywhere and vehicles slipping slowly, residents hope for smoother days ahead as the rains continue their grand performance.
