Big news for Rajasthan! The Indian government has approved a brand-new greenfield airport in Kota-Bundi. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave the go-ahead to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to develop this airport with a hefty price tag of ₹1,507 crore. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted this major step as a game-changer for the region. The state government of Rajasthan has already handed over a massive 440.06 hectare land chunk to AAI, setting the stage for this exciting development. The new airport will be built to handle big planes like the Airbus 321, a huge upgrade from the current small plane-friendly setup! Right now, Kota Airport is small and can only handle teeny tiny aircraft like DO-228. Its 400 sq meter terminal manages just 50 passengers at peak times — way too small for the needs of this booming city. The current airport can't be expanded for commercial flights because of tight land and increasing city growth. The new airport will feature a whopping 20,000 sq meter terminal building! It can handle 1,000 passengers every peak hour and a staggering 2 million passengers each year. Why is Kota getting so much attention? Situated on the banks of the Chambal River, Kota is known as Rajasthan’s industrial capital and India's education coaching powerhouse. This greenfield airport will be critical to support its fast-growing passenger traffic and boost business and education travel. As the official statement said, "Kota’s prominence in educational and industrial sectors makes the greenfield airport a critical infrastructure project, aimed at addressing the anticipated traffic growth in the region." With this fantastic plan, Kota’s sky’s the limit! Get ready to fly high from this new hub of progress and learning!
