A sparkling partnership is set to boost India's shipbuilding scene! Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) have signed a big deal — an MoU to launch a Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Shipbuilding Technology. CSL is investing ₹3.53 crore to bring this dream alive at the CUSAT campus. This centre is all about closing the gap between what's taught in classrooms and what's needed at the shipyards. According to a press release from the university, the CoE will focus on creating smart software, developing skills, and pushing digital tools for shipbuilding. Think cool tech like Naval Architecture, CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), FEA (Finite Element Analysis), and more. Thanks to this centre, students and researchers will get access to top-notch computers and advanced marine software to explore new ideas in ship design and ship analysis — truly a game changer! The official handover took place at a festive event where CSL Managing Director Madhu S Nair personally gave the MoU to CUSAT's Vice Chancellor Dr M Junaid Bushiri. The MoU was signed by the university's Registrar Dr Arun A U, marking a major milestone. To manage these exciting plans, the Vice Chancellor appointed Dr Satheesh Babu P K from the Department of Ship Technology as the coordinator, supported by Assistant Professors Dr Manoj T Issac and Dr Rajesh P Nair. Officials from both CSL and CUSAT were present at the ceremony, celebrating this powerful blend of knowledge and industry. This Centre of Excellence promises to ignite innovation and skill development, steering India's shipbuilding industry towards a brighter and more sustainable future!
